Las Candalistas Fundraising Events

Las Candalistas holds two fundraising events each year, organized and staffed by our volunteer members. The main event is held in the spring, and the second event is generally held in the fall.

Spring Event

Spring event 2016 at Catalina View Gardens

For more than 40 years our extremely popular spring event has been held outdoors at a beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula site. The event generally features a gourmet lunch, speakers or educational skits about the area’s natural environment and history, vendors, collectibles and unique crafts made by our members. Las Candalistas’ famous baked goods, jam and other homemade treats have also been a highlight. When it debuted in 1969, we called the event “Walk on the Wild Side,” and that identifier has stayed with us. Our 48th spring event in 2016, “A World of Flavor,” was held at Catalina View Gardens in Portuguese Bend. This event featured Chef Bernard Ibarra, of Terranea Resort. In addition,  Pamila Dugal demonstrated authentic Nepalese Cuisine and Rex Ito shared some of his Fish Master secrets. Guests were treated to a sit down gourmet lunch, with Catalina View wines for sale, and enjoyed a silent auction, opportunity drawings, shopping with our unique vendors and, of course, the amazing view of the Palos Verdes Peninsula.  

Fall Events

For several years, Las Candalistas presented “Entertaining for the Holidays” — featuring presentations of holiday table designs and decor, speakers on holiday topics, and a variety of related vendors and crafts. Held at the Promenade on the Peninsula, the event has also included refreshments and entertainment. In 2016 we brought the popular event back, this time at the Norris Pavilion. The theme was "A Year of Celebration" to recognize Las Candalistas' 50 years of service. Holiday tablescapes, made by members and special guests, were displayed, and three lifestyle speakers were presented. In addition, guests were treated to delicious appetizers, specialty vendors, Las Candalistas Creations and Found Treasures, Silent Auction (including a behind the scenes tour of SpaceX), Opportunity Drawing (a staycation in Long Beach and Catalina) and musical entertainment by the Coastliners and Pat Maki Group.

In 2014, we successfully debuted a new fall fundraiser called “Boots, Burlap and Bandanas” at the Empty Saddle Club in Rolling Hills Estates. In keeping with our reputation for elegant productions, guests were treated to a gourmet barbecue dinner served on china at artfully decorated tables. A boot-stompin’ night of dancing to a country western band followed. A second western themed event "Cowboys, Cocktails and Candelabras" took place again at the Empty Saddle club in 2015. Guests enjoyed a gourmet dinner, western dancing (with a line caller), silent auction, a wine pull, western games and more. A good time was had by all and it was a great way to kick-off our 2015-16 fundraising season!
