Marine Mammal Care Center – LA (MMCCLA) operates an animal rehabilitation hospital for sick and injured pinnipeds, primarily California seal lions, harbor seals, and northern elephant seals. MMCCLA has provided life-saving care for marine animals in need since 1992, with the goal of rehabilitating and releasing them back to their ocean home.
As the only year-round marine animal hospital in Los Angeles County, MMCC is one of the busiest in the country, admitting on average over 350 patients per year.
They also provide educational opportunities for the through their docent led tours. Their patient viewing pools are open to the public free of charge. Each year, approximately 12,000 people of all ages visit MMCCLA to learn about marine mammals and ocean conservation. Their mission is to support ocean conservation through education, research, and marine mammal rehabilitation.
Las Candalistas supports MMCCLA’s General Funding for the Hospital and Center which will help them continue their critical work of ocean conservation through saving the lives of hundreds of marine mammals each year, and inspiring students and the public to care for and take actions that ensure a healthy ocean for marine mammals and humans alike.
