Featuring conversations with 4 local best-selling authors:

Ellen Byron is a USA Today bestselling author, Anthony nominee, and recipient of multiple Agatha and Lefty awards for her Cajun Country Mysteries, Vintage Cookbook Mysteries, and Catering Hall Mysteries (as Maria DiRico). A Very Woodsy Murder is the first book in her new Golden Motel Mystery series. She is also an award-winning playwright and non-award-winning writer of TV hits like Wings, Just Shoot Me, and Fairly OddParents, but considers her most impressive achievement working as a cater-waiter for Martha Stewart.

An alum of New Orleans’ Tulane University, she blogs with Chicks on the Case, is a lifetime member of the Writers Guild of America and serves on the national board for Mystery Writers of America. She lives in the Los Angeles area with her husband, daughter, and rescue pooch Cammie.

Amber Susa is the author of “Born To Be All Of Me: Moving Out Of Self-Abandonment Into Authentic Embodiment”, a best-selling book in the category of personal development and spiritual growth. She is an entrepreneur, fitness expert, life-long dancer, holistic health and embodiment coach, Reiki healer, inspirational speaker, performer, spiritual mentor, and teacher. Amber is the founder and owner of Allomi (all-of-me), a platform for holistic health and healing that focuses on movement, meditation, and mindfulness. She is the creator and writer of her one-woman show, Waking Up to All Of Me: The Integration of The Inner Child and The Empowered Woman, performed most recently at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, where it received rave reviews. She is most passionate about supporting women in becoming all of who they were born to be. Amber currently resides in Palos Verdes, CA with the two loves of her life, her daughter Dawson and son Will.

Tom Sullivan’s life is a testament to courage and challenge, gratitude and service. Born 3 months prematurely, Tom was given too much oxygen in an incubator that saved his life but cost him his sight. Sullivan’s achievements are remarkable despite the disability.

Educated at the Perkins School for the Blind, Providence College, and Harvard, Tom excelled as a student and an athlete. Sullivan’s a member of the Wrestling Hall of Fame, a marathon runner, avid skier, and golfer who routinely shoots in the high 80’s.

His career as a singer/songwriter has taken him to concert venues around the world, and his roles as an actor have entertained audiences on TV series like Highway to Heaven, Touched by an Angel, Designing Women, Mork and Mindy, and WKRP in Cincinnati. He also spent 6 years as a special correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America where his touching stories on people beating the odds became a Wednesday morning staple. He is the author of 14 books and his biography, If You Could See What I Hear, was made into a highly successful movie in 1982. He will be discussing his book “The Leading Lady, Dinah’s Story” co- authored with Betty White. He notes that being married to his wife, Patty, and having his children, Blythe and Tom, are his greatest treasure and most important achievement.

Tom’s life of service has been recognized with awards such as the Hellen Keller Lifetime Achievement Award, the Will Rogers National Humanitarian Award, the Apollo Award for his work in eye care, and the naming of a classroom and legacy fund thanks to the over $8M he and his wife Patty have raised for the Blind Children’s Center of Los Angeles.

Showing no signs of slowing down, Sullivan is actively pursuing opportunities to continue his commitment to a life of service. His formula for living is remarkably simple: “Challenge yourself to be the best person possible and in that effort, choose to make a difference in the lives of others.”

Patty Sullivan was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Tucson where she attended the University of Arizona.

During a summer spent on Cape Cod, she met her husband, Tom Sullivan, who was attending Harvard at the time but pursuing a career in the music business. At the same time, they met Allen Ludden and Betty White who became mentors and beloved lifetime friends, inspiring their own loving marriage of fifty-three years.

Tom and Patty have two grown children, Blythe and Tom, Jr. While raising their family, Patty traveled with Tom for his music concerts and television appearances as well as thousands of motivational speaking engagements across the country. Along the way she served her community in many capacities. Most important to her is the organization she founded to support the Blind Children’s Center of Los Angeles, raising more than 10 million dollars to date. Equally important is her long-time commitment to Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital. As a Trustee Emeritus she continues to serve on their Ministry Board and Mission Community Health Committee.

She has had a wonderfully full life and along the way, was blessed with an incredible relationship with the remarkable Betty White, her mentor and surrogate mother, prompting her to write this loving tribute, Betty White’s Pearls of Wisdom: Life Lessons from a Beloved American Treasure.

And your Host for the Conversation:

Rebecca Forster was a participant in last year’s Between the Covers. We’re thrilled to have her back as host! Rebecca started writing on a crazy dare and found her passion. Now a USA Today and Amazon bestselling author with over 40 books to her name. Laurie Levenson, CBS Legal Correspondent calls Forster’s legal and police thrillers “perfect…impossible to put down.”.

The Witness Series, set in Hermosa Beach, is published worldwide and has over three million readers. Rebecca’s Finn O’Brien series takes inspiration from the micro-communities in Los Angeles. Her fast-paced tales are known for deep characterization and never-see-it-coming endings.

Rebecca has taught at the acclaimed UCLA Writers Program. She is a sought-after speaker, keynoting at judges and bar associations, business and philanthropic groups. She has also been a repeat presenter at the LA Times Festival of Books.

Forster does extensive research to bring authenticity to her work. She is a graduate of both DEA and ATF citizen’s academies, Palos Verdes PD gun safety course, and landed by tailhook on the USS Nimitz where she was a guest on the aircraft carrier during the Leaders to Sea Program. World travel informs her work from Albania to China and all points in between.

Rebecca is the mother to two grown sons and is married to a Los Angeles Superior Court judge. She has been a Palos Verdes resident since 1995. She is feverously trying to finish her 9th book in the Witness series which will feature a Las Candalistas member!
